GIVING THANKS

Posted: November 23, 2022 in Latest News

This week is Thanksgiving week and it’s an especially meaningful one for The Perps. We are sad to announce that Marie Dorn, wife of our singer Sterling Dorn, passed away last week. Sterling and Marie enjoyed a long and fruitful marriage spanning many, many decades, and her absence will be felt deeply by all who knew her. Sterling’s signature song – and the one with which he always ended his performance – was What A Wonderful World. Before singing it he always took time to talk about the meaning of the song and how it encourages us to rise above the bad in life and focus on the goodness all around us.

In that spirit, we look at this sad event and try to remember that, when faced with such a loss, we can find comfort in the adage “don’t be sorry it’s over, be glad it happened.”

We will keep Marie in our hearts and dedicate to her memory our next performance at Blackwall Hitch in Annapolis this coming Sunday, November 27, from 10am until 2pm. Let her passing remind us to give thanks for all the good people and things in our lives. Until then, have a blessed Thanksgiving.

This Friday, November 18, The Jazz Perpetrators will be dishing out an evening of  tasty jazz and R&B tunes at the Gambrills location of  the Smashing Grapes Kitchen + Wine Bar. Like all of the band’s appearances at Smashing Grapes locations, this pre-Thanksgiving appearance will be an all instrumental performance..

You can find the Smashing Grapes Gambrills location in the Waugh Chapel Towne Centre at 2383 Brandermill Blvd, Gambrills. The Perps will play from 9pm until midnight, so stop on by, kick back and relax to some great music as you get your weekend off to a smooth start. See you there!

This Friday, November 11, The Jazz Perpetrators will get things zipping once again at the Annapolis location of the Smashing Grapes restaurant + Wine Bar. Although the band’s motto is “high spirits, low volume,” we would be remiss if we didn’t mention that November 11 is also Veterans Day, a day when we honor all all veterans of the uniformed services who served or are still serving to protect our nation.

Like all of the band’s appearances at Smashing Grapes locations, this will be an all instrumental performance. The Perps will play from 8 to 11pm. So stop on by, sit back with a tasty beverage and soak up the band’s special combination of instrumental jazz and R&B favorites to get your holiday weekend off to a smooth start – see you there!

Perps ‘n’ Pumpkins

Posted: October 5, 2022 in Latest News

You can always tell when it’s October: everything’s pumpkin this and pumpkin that – pumpkin spice latte, pumpkin pie, and pumpkin flavored any and everything. And now you can add The Jazz Perpetrators to that list. While not exactly known for “Jack ‘o lantern jazz,” The Perps will be slipping a little autumn flavor into their repertoire this Sunday, October 9, when once again they bring their patented “high spirits, low volume” music back to the Blackwall Hitch’s Sunday brunch.

The Perps will perform from 10am until 2pm, providing relaxing music perfectly suited to blend with the restaurant’s excellent cuisine and sophisticated ambiance. As with all appearances at Blackwall Hitch, this will be an all-instrumental performance. All the rains and the winds have come and gone so come on down and enjoy a fantastic musical and dining experience. Blackwall Hitch is located at 400 Sixth Street in Eastport, just over the Spa Creek bridge near the Annapolis city dock. See you there!

The Jazz Perpetrators will fill out their September calendar with two additional dates: this Friday, September 16 at the Annapolis location of Smashing Grapes and Sunday, September 25 at Brian Boru Irish Pub in Severna Park.

Catch The Perps this Friday night, September 16, at the Annapolis location of the Smashing Grapes kitchen + wine bar at 177 Jennifer Road, right off Rt. 50 and adjacent to the Annapolis Mall. The band starts at 8 and plays until 11pm. Smashing Grapes is the perfect setting for the band’s patented “high spirits, low volume” delivery of instrumental jazz and R&B favorites. Stop on by, sit back, have a sip, and relax to music that will put you in the groove.

You have one more chance to the see The Perps this month on Sunday, September 25, when they play at Brian Boru Irish Pub, located right at 489 Ritchie Highway #103 in Severna Park. We had so much fun the last time we were there that we just had to do it again. This afternoon performance (3-7pm) will feature the band’s singer extraordinaire, the one-and-only Sterling Dorn. Sterling’s guaranteed to get things groovin’ with his smooth delivery and soulful style — when Sterling’s singing and the band’s swinging, it doesn’t get any better – c’mon down and party with The Perps!

With back-to-back gigs this weekend, Perps fans will have two chances to see their favorite musical miscreants in two different formations in two different settings.

The Perps start the weekend off on Friday with a nine-to-midnight soiree at the Smashing Grapes Gambrills location situated in the Waugh Chapel Towne Centre on Rt 3/301 just south of Rt 97. As per house request, this will be an instrumental performance. Sit back with your favorite beverage (wine or other) and relax to the famous “high spirits low volume” delivery of The Perps as they ease you into the weekend.

Vocalist Sterling Dorn joins The Perps on Saturday as they provide the musical entertainment for one of their favorite causes, the Goshen Farm Preservation Society’s annual Wine Tasting & Raffle fund raising event. Cancelled during the pandemic, the event and the band return in full form in support of a very special cause. The event is now held at the Cape St. Claire Clubhouse at 1223 River Bay Road, Annapolis, MD 21409 and will run from 4 until 7 pm. Tickets can be purchased online at https://goshenfarm.org/events/wine-tasting-fundraiser/ for $25 or at the door for $30 (cash or check only).

See you this weekend!

This entire week is going to be one big solar slam fest. After a weeklong string of temps in the 90s, we’re all going to feel like roasted chickens, but one way to beat the heat will be to head indoors to the Blackwall Hitch in Eastport for a great brunch and some cool tunes by The Jazz Perpetrators.

This Sunday, July 24, The Perps will once again provide musical entertainment for the Hitch’s renowned Sunday brunch with a performance in the bar/buffet area from 10am until 2pm. The food will be warm, but the musical vibe will definitely be cool as the band’s “high spirits, low volume” sounds provide the perfect laid-back setting for a fine dining experience.

Blackwall Hitch is located at 400 Sixth Street in Eastport, just over the Spa Creek bridge near the Annapolis city dock. Come on down and chill – see you there!

Come join The Jazz Perpetrators for some entertainment and relaxation at Brian Boru Irish Pub in Severna Park on Sunday, July 10th from 3 pm to 6 pm. Brian Boru Irish Pub is conveniently located right on 489 Ritchie Highway #103 in Severna Park. In addition to their famous “high spirits, low volume” groove, The Perps will also feature a special appearance by their singer extraordinaire, the one and only Sterling Dorn, aka the life of the party. When Sterling’s singing and the band’s swinging, you know you’re going to have a good time!

On Friday, July 15, The Perps will continue their cycle of appearances at the Smashing Grapes venues, this time back again at the Annapolis location (177 Jennifer Rd, Annapolis, MD 21401) at restaurant row near the Annapolis Mall. The band starts earlier now, beginning at 8 pm and running to 11 pm, so don’t be late. See you there!
