Now that the holidaze are over and you’ve put away all the decorations and lived through the Polar Vortex, it’s time to thaw out and regain your je-ne-sais-what-the-hell with the area’s favorite low level bopsters, the Jazz Perpetrators. Beginning next Thursday, January 16, the Perps (as they’re known to all law and jazz enforcement officials everywhere) will be appearing in Annapolis at Crush Kitchen and Wine House on the third Thursday of every month, January-June. Start time will be later (8pm), so you won’t have to run a bunch of red lights to get there when the musical festivities begin.
Because they’re on a work-release detail, the Perps will be leaving the orange jumpsuits back at the big house as they perform dressed like normal jazzbos (if that’s not a contradiction in terms). Their MO remains the same: high spirits at low volume – the perfect combination for a little relaxation and socialization, and who couldn’t use some more of that?
The usual suspects will be performing their musical version of breaking & entering: Stu “Big Air” Bailey on reeds; Jim “Mr. Smooth” Hession on piano and international negotiations; Bill “His Lowliness” Evans on extra-bottom bass; Bob “Sexual Healing” Cuellar on the organ; and that guy making the “quiet” racket in the back.
Crush, which is located at 114 West Street, next to Loews Annapolis Hotel and just a few blocks from Church Circle, is an ideal spot for kicking back with a glass of wine, some great food and friends and catching the Perps’ special brand of sophisticated sonic ambiance. So swing on down and get your grape on – the food and drink is available all night, and the band plays from 8 until the paddy wagon shows up. See you there!
