Perps – Late in the Evening

Posted: November 3, 2016 in Uncategorized

The Perps’ next monthly jazz-a-ma-tazz, to be held this Sunday, November 6, at the John Barry Restaurant and Pub in the O’Callaghan Hotel in Annapolis, will be starting a little later than usual. This new start time (8 o’clock) has been necessitated by an altercation with the nefarious Jazz Police. Seems that one of the Perps was ALLEGEDLY – we repeat “ALLEGEDLY” – caught playing “Take 5” on four trash cans in the alley behind Blues Alley in the middle of the day during a weekday. This – IF true – is an infraction of several Jazz Tenets: 1) no playing in the daytime; 2) never play in 5/4 without warning everyone within earshot; 3) never get caught in an alley (Blues or otherwise) unless you’re drunk or shooting up.

As punishment for this infraction, this particular Perp has been assigned to play at an all-day polka marathon at an Überstumpfentanzentrinkenfest which will cause him to arrive later than the normal 7 pm start time for the Perps gig. The only way he could get to the gig on time would be if he didn’t stop to change out of his lederhosen, knee socks, and tyrolean hat, which he has refused to do. The band and their musicians-union-appointed lawyer apologize for this delayed start time but if it’s any consolation, the case is still under appeal.

The hotel and pub are located at 174 West Street, just a few blocks west of Church Circle near downtown Annapolis. And forget about parking hassles, the restaurant offers free valet parking in the rear.

See you on Sunday with an eight o’clock start!

Perps ‘n Pumpkins

October begins this weekend, and that means that ghosts & goblins & witches & the walking dead are getting ready to hit the streets and hit you up for their sugar rush. Before you know it you won’t be able to walk anywhere without stepping on candy wrappers everywhere you go, and you’ll have to take half of the goodies in your house into the office so you don’t eat them all yourself.

But before all that kid stuff takes over, treat yourself to an adult-centric evening of good food and drink, a relaxing, friendly setting, and the famous “high spirits, low volume” music of those local freak-a-doodles, the Jazz Perpetrators. The Perps will be making their monthly appearance at the John Barry restaurant and pub in the O’Callaghan Hotel in Annapolis this Sunday, October 2, from 7 to 10pm. The Perps and vocalist extraordinaire Sterling Dorn will give you a mellow evening before you’re up to your eyeballs in costume making and jack ‘o lantern carving.

The hotel and pub are located at 174 West Street, just a few blocks west of Church Circle near downtown Annapolis. And forget about parking hassles, the restaurant offers free valet parking in the rear.

So take some time for yourself  and come on down; we’ll see you on Sunday!

Enough with the triple-digit heat index already, everybody gets it – global warming is real. Park the jet ski back in the garage, put away the suntan lotion and beach towels, and get in the mood for some coolness, courtesy of the Jazz Perpetrators.

The Perps will be doing their “high spirits, low volume” thing” at the John Barry Restaurant and Pub in the O’Callaghan Hotel in Annapolis this Sunday, September 4, from 7 to 10 pm. The Perps – featuring vocalist/scratch golfer Sterling Dorn – will swing the sounds while you sit back, relax, chat, enjoy a bite to eat and/or an adult beverage, and get in the fall groove. We’ll probably even make “Autumn Leaves” the theme song of the night.

The hotel and pub are located at 174 West Street, just a few blocks west of Church Circle near downtown Annapolis. And forget about parking hassles, the restaurant offers free valet parking in the rear.

So put yourself in relax mode and come on down; we’ll see you on Sunday!

“It’s toGoshen flyero hot, I lost my lottery ticket, my cousin Sally Mae’s coming to visit from West Virginia and I can’t find my little blue pills.” Enough with the whining already – the only wine you should be concerned with is the one that comes in a bottle. And the best ones we can think of are available at Bella’s Liquors, which is sponsoring the Goshen Farm Preservation Society’s annual Wine Tasting and Silent Auction, to be held on Saturday, August 27, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the home of Valerie Sullivan located at 1504 Stacey Lane, Annapolis, MD 21409. Free parking for the event will be available behind Bay Area Insurance (818 E. College Parkway, Annapolis, MD 21409).

In addition to spirits, attendees will enjoy a variety of tasty treats provided by Chef Art Lewis, an amazing array of silent auction items, and music by the “low volume/high spirits” Jazz Perpetrators.  A $20 donation (tax deductible!) will get you in the door, with all proceeds going to support Historic Goshen Farm.

So stop whining and start wining, dining, dancing, and bidding for a good cause – we’ll see you there. And just remember, if anyone asks you later on, we weren’t the ones who spilled wine on the carpet!

Anyhoo, the Perps (that’s us) will be putting on our monthly swing-a-ding-ding at the John Barry Restaurant and Pub in the O’Callaghan Hotel in Annapolis this Sunday, July 3rd, from 7 to 10pm, at which time our parole officer is scheduled to pick us up to take us back to the Big House for social reintegration.

This is the perfect opportunity for you (that’s you) to make this a double-fun weekend by stopping by to relax and hear the Perps (that’s us) do their world-famous “high spirits, low volume” thing on Sunday and then have all day Monday the Fourth to blow stuff up, set the neighbor’s house on fire with errant Roman candles, and chow down on all those outdoor-grilled dogs and burgers with friends and family.

(Nobody’s talking, but rumor has it that this may have something to do with anticipated meteor showers, baby showers, cosmic planetary misalignment, pre-trial hearings, or just scheduling issues).

Posted: March 29, 2016 in Uncategorized

Last month the Jazz Perpetrators said a musical farewell to the band’s founder and godfather, Bob Cuellar, Mister Superbad hisself, as he relocated to Florida and the warmer, sunnier side of things. From all accounts, he’s already started burning it up down there, so all you snow birds have been givBob croppeden fair warning – when you hear all that hip Hammond stuff being played poolside, you’ll know who it is.

Now a quartet, the Jazz Perpetrators will continue spreading their patented “high spirits, low volume” philosophy at the John Barry Restaurant and Bar in the O’Callaghan Hotel. As a result of their well-received debut there earlier this month, the Perps will be Perps at O'Callaghanplaying in the pub on the first Sundays of the month, which means this coming Sunday, April 3, is your next opportunity to relax with a drink or a bite to eat and enjoy the new Perps playing their new material as well as their traditional favorites.  Downbeat is at 7 pm with music through about 10 pm.  Look for dinner and drink specials while the music is playing, too.

The hotel and its restaurant are located at 174 West Street, just a few blocks west of Church Circle near downtown Annapolis. And forget about parking hassles, the restaurant offers free valet parking in the rear – easy peezy.
